On the second business trip, we got up lately because of last abroad journey. My boss had given a promise of eight's morning meeting with whom would have led us to Chinese. But, we went down the hotel restaurant to eat breakfast at eight ten. There were 3 persons, and we exchanged greetings each other. Two of them hosted this seminar meeting. The other was a CEO who managed the firm related with RFID. The Chinese who would have met with us worked for the distribution company. The company was like E-Mart in Korea. So, they were interested in SCM (supply chain management), RFID, WMS (warehouse management system), etc. After we ate breakfast, we waited for the vehicle which would have picked up us for the place of meeting with the Chinese. While waiting for the vehicle, one of them, the CEO who hosted this meeting, told my boss and me about Chinese businesses. He told like the following :

China government provides many opportunities of China expansion to foreign companies, but the Chinese dislike the people who intend to make money fast and fade away, so at first the Chinese approach to foreign business men carefully, but once they have trust with foreigners, the Chinese give all of their ownership.

Anyway, the vehicle arrived at front hotel, we boarded on the car. The driver drove a car from our hotel to the meeting place along with seaside highway. But, the driver drove a car very roughly. On driving, I experienced the time when the car had been almost crashed. The Chinese interrupted other lanes without flashing lights on their cars. This was very interested but felt very uneasy to me.

The building at which we arrived was over 15 floors. The most buildings in Shenzhen were over 20 floors. In Shenzhen, now many buildings are built anywhere. Within the building Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry was in. As I knew later, many other countries' Chambers of Commerce and Industry were in the building. Also, there were the education organizations which many excellent students were studying computer programs for free. Although it was weekend, there were many students in the building. I felt the Chinese future powers.

About 30 or so persons had already been awaited for us. They were all Chinese computer programmers. They seemed to be about early 30's or so. After we exchanged short greetings, our Korean heard the situation of that Chinese company. The person who explained to us also was early 30's, and his position was general manager in IT department, and his name was Delphi in English. After explanation of their computer systems/architecture, I knew why he named Delphi. He was good at Delphi. Actually the running OS of the company was Windows, and programmers write Delphi codes in C/S, and C# in web environment. This technology was analogous with the middleware. The company stared in early 2000s, and now has about 20,000 employees with 14 billion RMB on sale. The company have sold 100 ~ 200% more than the before year. The company also had an interesting software, called FIT, to me. FIT provided many functions such as management of program scripts (programmers wrote scripts with logics) and document, version control with CVS/SVN, deployment to servers, detect and notification of bugs, etc. These functions were running on WinX OS.

The reason why I told SOA(service-oriented architecture) to them was that they needed to require upgrades of their software, so they wanted to know details of SOA. Then I told SOA to them in Korean. Because there was a translator and I had not prepared my English presentation, I explained my material on SOA in Korean. But, Chinese translator was not good at translation of IT contents. I felt sorry for not preparing English presentation. On explaining SOA, the general manager, Delphi, added detailed illustration after translation. Actually he translated my English material into Chinese until a.m. 4 the day before, and he seemed to be understood my contents. Also, he was good at English, so he communicated with other Korean with English fluently.

I made a business trip to Shenzhen via Hong Kong in China last Friday with my boss. Shenzhen adjoins Hong Kong forward the north. So, on the first day where I reached Hong Kong, I and my boss took a bus toward Shenzhen almost at noon. Both Shenzhen and Hong Kong are cities in China, but there is still border between these two cities. The bus we took stopped at in front of the border of Shenzhen, and then we stepped down the bus in order to pass through immigration and customs. After that, we walked again forward the place where the bus we had taken was awaited, but the bus driver was changed into another guy. After about one and half hour, we arrived at the hotel we had to check in. The name of hotel was New Times Hotel (in China 新時代酒).

We ate pizza for lunch, and drank Starbucks coffee, but the price of pizza and coffee was less inexpensive rather than that of Seoul. The price of industrial products was more expensive than other products. After lunch, we walked around the town. There were many cars, buses, and vehicles, but a few crosswalks, so most passersby crossed the street in spite of the traffic red light. The Chinese seemed to have few minds in traffic rules. After entering into the room in Hotel, we prepared the material that we were going to explain our technology the next day. In the evening, we ate dinner in the restaurant at the across building. Since Shenzhen is on the shore, there were many seafood restaurants. But, my boss said that he never had a feeling of eating seafood when seeing the pictures of menu. I really thought that was agreed. We ate safe(?) seafood such as shrimps, crabs, etc. The restaurant was wider than that in Seoul, and there were many customers in restaurants. The price of seafood was also not inexpensive.

After dinner, we came back Hotel, and took a little rest. And then, we felt tired because of early flying, so we went to a massage shop for relief of our fatigues. The labor cost was definitely so inexpensive that most labor services attracted the foreign visitors. A two-hour massage paid about below RMB(RenMinBi, 人民, Yuan, 元) 100 per one person, in KRW \15,000. My first business trip day ended with deep restful sleep.

In below picture, Shenzhen is located above Kowloon Peninsula (in China, 九龍半島) in Hong Kong. These two cities are connected by both a railroad and a subway. But, two cities have different economy systems and cultural background.

Potluck Dinner (각자 한 접시씩)

일부 사람들은 ‘You are cordially invited to Diannes’ Potluck(다이앤의 팟럭에 초대합니다)’ 같은 초대장을 보내기도 하지만 대부분 구두나 전화로 초대하면 된다.
